Description:

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery for our application-layer products. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

• Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation driving concrete academic results
• TeachTap: AI-enabled platform reviving historical figures in a TikTok-inspired educational format
• TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to improve reading comprehension
• TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an engaging experience

This position balances individual contribution with leadership: approximately 50% of your time will be spent directly implementing sophisticated features, while the remaining 50% focuses on mentoring and empowering your team. You will define quality expectations, establish engineering patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional mindset, and support the professional development of engineers. Accountability extends to team-wide results, not solely your individual output.

Compact team structure, substantial ownership, minimal administrative overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management responsibilities rest elsewhere.

What You Will Be Doing

• Implementing sophisticated features that establish technical patterns for the team
• Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
• Mentoring engineers through collaborative sessions and constructive feedback
• Orchestrating technical initiatives and decomposing project requirements
• Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring consistent team adherence

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance assessments, career development discussions)
• Contributing to platform or infrastructure-level systems
• Attending prolonged or frequent meeting schedules
• Designing architecture in isolation from hands-on implementation

Basic Requirements

Lead Software Engineer key responsibilities

• At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
• At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
• Track record of shipping SaaS products
• Experience with AI tools in development workflow
• Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
